Don Ashley Sr.

Don Duane Ashley Sr., age 74, formerly of Lilbourn, died July 19, 2012 at Sikeston Convalescent Center in Sikeston, Missouri.

He was born December 26, 1937 near Osceola, Arkansas, son of the late Reno and Helen Crews Ashley.

Don was a member of Lilbourn United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. He graduated in 1955 from Lilbourn High School where he was an avid trumpet player. Don attended Southeast Missouri State University and was a member of the Army Reserve. He farmed in the Parma-Catron area until ill health forced his retirement.

On June 15, 1963 he married the former Ginger Douglass in Malden, Missouri; she survives of the home in Sikeston.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Sherry Slinkard and husband Mark of Madison, Mississippi; one son, Don Ashley Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; two step grandchildren of Madison, Mississippi; and one special cousin, Barbara Ross of Sikeston.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. There will be graveside services held Monday, July 23, at 11:00 a.m. at the Senath Cemetery in Senath, Missouri. The Rev. Eric Mattson, pastor First United Methodist Church Lilbourn, will officiate.
