Elizabeth May (Bloomfield) Cope, age 90, loving daughter, mother and grandmother, died at Asbury Park in Newton, Kansas on Saturday, July 21, 2012.
Elizabeth, a longtime resident of Sikeston, Missouri had relocated to Newton in 2007 to be closer to her daughter and her family. Although she enjoyed being closer to family she always thought of Sikeston as "home".
Elizabeth was born on July 11, 1922 in Sikeston to the late S.T. (Shirley Thomas) and Ruth (Harper) Bloomfield. She remained devoted to her parents who relied greatly upon her until the time of their deaths. Elizabeth worked for Potlatch and retired from there due to health concerns after 25 years of service. She joined the First Christian Church in Sikeston on December 2, 1935 and remained a member there for 77 years. At the time of her death, she was the longest surviving member of the congregation. Elizabeth loved her church and its members and served as a Deaconess. She belonged to the Christian Women's Fellowship and was a loyal member of her Sunday school class.
Elizabeth is survived by one son, Stephen Cope of Bennett, Colorado and one daughter, Katherine (Harry) Littleton of Newton, Kansas. She is also survived by five grandchildren and was expecting her first two great-grandchildren this year. Elizabeth was a kind and caring grandmother who was very proud of her grandchildren and loved to tell about all their accomplishments.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her older brother, Thomas E. Bloomfield and younger brother, John H. Bloomfield.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 26, from 9 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church in Sikeston. Rev. Mary McCord, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church 006 N. Main St. Sikeston, MO 63801.
